Christmas 08

Merry Christmas! Our Christmas was very busy; here then there, everyone wants to see Jacob. But it was a good Christmas! We had the whitest Christmas ever! That was fun and a little frustrating. We didn't get our shopping done till after Christmas because we were SO STUCK at home. Our neighborhood was really bad! Lots of ice covered by 7 inches of snow CRAZY! It was really pretty though. I'm pretty excited for when Jacob gets really excited about Christmas and Santa and decorating the house, making cookies, filling stockings... all of it! Christmas is so magical for kids and I'm really looking forward to creating beautiful memories and traditions for our family.

Jacob was such a little sport about all the pictures! He usually hates being naked, but he didn't mind this at all =) In the second picture he is in a stocking! Hee hee

This is Jacob's BFF Isaac. He is a month older than Jacob but he was born 3 weeks early so that's why they are about the same size. Jacob is a little taller and leaner and Isaac has bigger hands, feet and head. When I was still pregnant with Jacob and Isaac was a newborn, his mom Kelly let me "practice" on him. She let me hold him and give him a bath and ask a million questions. She's the best!!! I'm SOOO grateful to her!

Father and son

Josh and Jacob have a very special bond. Josh can always get him to smile. It's so cute! I love my boys so much!!!

You can really see Jakie's dimples in this picture. He has 2 on his left cheek. I don't know where that came from but I think it's adorable!

This picture is "like father like son!" I love it!!! Josh set it up and I walked in and just about fell over laughing. Josh is ALWAYS on his computer so that's what makes this picture so funny.

6 weeks

Yesterday was Jacob's 6 week birthday!

He's such an amazing baby. He's pretty content and happy most of the time. He smiles everyday now and is starting to laugh and squeal. He also is starting to try to talk. I know that babies don't talk for a while, but he is starting to baby talk. He moves his mouth like he is trying to say something and he loves it when you repeat a sound or face that he makes. It makes him smile. He has 2 dimples on his left cheek. He loves to cuddle but sometimes he just wants to be placed on the couch next to you but left alone so he can just look around. He likes his swing in small doses. He still hates tummy time. He's still nursing every 3-4 hours, sometimes every 2 hours. He doesn't really spit up, maybe once a week he will spit up just a tiny amount. He tries to suck on his whole fist and just yesterday a finger or two. He's not very good with a pacifier. He will take it for a second and he can't keep it in. I don't think he is rejecting it, he just has a hard time holding it in. Which is fine with us because we really don't want to see him need it all the time. If he is really upset he wants nothing to do with the pacifier. He still sleeps in our bed because he wont sleep in his crib more than an hour and we still like having him in our bed. We left him with a babysitter, his grandma Shelley, for the first time so we could get some Christmas shopping done. I was so scatter brained the whole time it just felt weird because I have been with him 24/7 since he was born. Grandma gave him his first bottle (with breastmilk, we haven't given him formula yet and probably wont for a while) and he took it just fine. He will follow an object with his eyes. He has the longest eyelashes! They are so beautiful! Seriously they are as long as an adults. I love it. I brought him up to a mirror and he just stared at himself. I don't know if he knows what he was looking at but it was really cute.

Here's a video of Jacob smiling. Please PLEASE ignore my dorky voice!!! =)

More pictures

Here's some more fun pictures, not much else to blog about =)

This one Josh took. Josh can ALWAYS get him to smile, I'm a little jealous! He really does like daddy better. =( We tested it today, Jacob was crying and I gave him to Josh and within a few seconds he stopped. Then Josh gave him back to me and he cried again! So I handed him back to Josh and he stopped! What is up with that??? =)

Labor... not that easy!

My Labor Story
(the long version for my own personal recording)

It was a typical lazy, sleep in saturday morning on November 8th. I was laying in bed trying to sleep in but unsuccessful from being so pregnant and uncomfortable, my hips were pretty sore the last few weeks. It was about 10 o'clock and I feel this little "tickle" down there, I don't know how else to describe it. So I quickly got up (having to pee pretty bad as well) and I couldn't tell if my water broke because I was going #1, but I thought that it might have just a little bit. So I woke Josh up and told him that maybe we should start getting ready and get the car seat in the car (we still hadn't done that this late in the game!) just incase. So I start getting ready, I'm in no pain by the way, and Josh is just silent, he was worried and anxious and I think that gave him an upset stomach even though he hadn't eaten anything yet. At about 10:30 I was putting my make up on, getting ready slowly cause I'm in no pain and not even sure my water broke, when all of the sudden I felt another little "tickle" and I rush to the bathroom just in time for a huge gush. I remember in our birthing class the teacher told us that when your water brakes it's nothing like the movies. She said that if your water broke on it's own, cause for a lot of women it doesn't happen till they are in the hospital, that it would just feel like a little trickle and not the huge embarrassing splash like in the movies. Well, mine was a huge embarrassing splash, I don't know what she was talking about. I'm SO glad that I was at home and not in public!

So, we get to the hospital at about 11 and there are no rooms available and since I was not in any pain I waited in the waiting room till a nurse would come to get me. I'm pretty excited at the point, not feeling any contractions, but knowing that my baby would be coming very soon, I couldn't sit down. And I didn't want to sit down because I now that moving and walking around helps with labor. The only problem was that since my water had already broken, I was still leaking! Now I'm feeling that "little trickle" that the teacher was talking about. I still didn't want to just sit still, so I had to change my pants 3 time cause it looked like I peed my pants! Finally we get a room close to 1 o'clock, I get changed into my fabulous gown and get check in by the nurse. She checked my cervix and told me that I was maybe dilated to a 1! I thought, "Are you freaking kidding me?" cause the week before at my Drs appointment she told me I was dilated 1-2 cm. I was really hoping that my water breaking was a good sign that labor was more under way than that. People love to tell pregnant women horror stories I've decided, because about a week before all of this, my mother in law (I still love you if you're reading this) told me a story about how she heard that this lady lost her baby right after he was born because pitocin made his breathing and heart rate so slow. So I told the nurse that I wanted to have as drug free of a birth as I could handle and I especially didn't want pitocin. She said okay and explained that it was safe and it might be necessary bla bla bla and that I could go for a walk and see if that would get labor going for me. So, Josh, my mother in law, and my sister in law walked and walked and walked and walked; I wore them all out. I didn't want to stop walking, so they decided that start walking me one at a time so the other 2 could rest! I was finally starting to feel some contractions, but I was still about to walk through them so they weren't that bad. So we get back to the room and she checks me again and she tells me that I'm a 1 and a half!!! I told her that I was starting to feel contractions so maybe now things might progress a little faster. She told me I had one more hour to walk around and see if things get moving a long before the Dr. would put me on pitocin. So again I walked and walked and walked and more and more people started showing up for me. I was started to know what a real contraction felt like because I couldn't walk through them and could hardly talk. I go back to my room at about 6 pm and I was still only dilated 2 cm so what did the nurse do, she started me on pitocin!

With in 1 hour I went from dealing with me pain very well I thought, trying to relax and breath, to terrible contractions that made me shake and cry out in pain. There were so many people there for me in the waiting room, but I didn't want anyone back in my room with me cause I was a mess! I was confused, in more pain that I had ever dealt with, frustrated and not sure when to ask for an epidural because I had head that unless you are dilated to a 5 or above it can slow down your labor. And plus I really wanted to have a drug free birth, so much for that. The nurse convinces me, she was very nice don't get me wrong, that an epidural wouldn't slow my labor because my water had already broken and I was established enough in labor that now was a good time so I get my epidural. Now I was kind of feeling like a failure because I really didn't want to give these strong drugs to my baby. And what do you know, my labor SLOWS DOWN! I went from having steadily increasing contractions about a minute apart, to have weak contractions 5-10 minutes apart! I couldn't feel them, but we were watching the monitor. Now they up my pitocin because labor is going backwards and then this starts stressing out my poor sweet baby! Every time I had a contraction (few and far between) my babies heart rate dropped DRAMATICALLY. He's heart rate went from his normal 150 my whole pregnancy to 72!!! All of this happen over a few hours, I don't remember the exact times. The nurse stopped the pitocin and let my body try and labor naturally, but by this time I was starting to feel again. It was probably about 2-3 a.m. when I start to feel it and I kept trying to tell the nurse that I was feeling the contractions and that they were getting worse. I woke Josh up at about 4, he was sleeping on the couch right next to me, to tell him how much pain I was in and he looked at the bag and my epidural bag was empty! The dr came in and said that I might have to have a c-section but they wanted to put an internal monitor in first to really see how the baby was doing. That hurt SO BAD cause I could feel everything. At this point the contractions were so bad I was shaking violently and throwing up, it was awful.

All of the sudden things starting happening very fast! The Dr and some nurses come back in and tell me they are doing a c-section right now, had Josh scrubs and tell him he has a minute to put them on. It's all kind of a blur but they wheel me down at 5 am, everyone was calm, but talking and moving very fast, everyone was giving me directions at once, it was crazy! I was balling because I so scared. They didn't strap my arms down, I remember thinking that was weird. So the screen goes up, they give me more drugs which made me puke bright yellow and they started working. I could feel the pressure of the c-section and Josh was right there by my head so I made him keep talking to me to distract me. All of the sudden it wasn't pressure anymore, I felt a sharp pain somewhere inside of me and I say out loud "I felt that!" and they KEPT GOING and this time a scream because it hurt so bad. I heard the dr say "knock her out," and pretty much they next thing  I knew I was waking up in a different room, with 2 nurses I had never seen before. I remember I was so tired and I heard a mans voice telling me the details of my baby "he has strawberry blonde hair, 8 lbs 12 oz..." but I don't ever remember seeing that man cause I was so out of it. I was trying so hard to pry my eyes open so they would see I was awake enough and take me to see my baby. If you have ever been put under, you understand that this is very hard to do because all you want to do is sleep and you feel like you just got the best sleep of your life. I was very calm though because even though I couldn't see my baby, I knew he was safe and that was all that mattered to me. I felt very very peaceful.
At 7:15 (2 hours after he was born) I was wheeled back to my room and Josh walked over and put our sweet baby in my arms. He was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen! My heart was instantly his. I cannot describe the love that I felt surge through me in that moment. He was so alert, so perfect, so innocent and amazing. I couldn't help by cry, I was so happy.

Later, I found out that the c-section was an emergency because the baby was stressed, his heart rate was dropping, the umbilical cord was around his neck and his head was stuck in me cocked to the side. Crazy! I'm so grateful for modern medicine, so grateful! I don't even want to think about what might have happened in any other time period. I'm so grateful to have my sweet boy and that he is happy and healthy and absolutely the love of our lives!

Just some pictures

Nothing too exciting to blog about, so I thought I would just post some pictures of Jacob and maybe explain some of the faces he makes. He is SO CUTE!

Here's my new outfit

I think his sad face is so cute! He knows how to melt our hearts with that bottom lip!

What parent doesn't have a million sleeping pictures =)

This face means... "I'm making poop for you to clean up."

This is his changing table (our ottoman) and when I change him he would stare at the diaper basket, so I thought I would give him something to look at. I had our old Christmas card from last year and took a chip clip and there you go. He always looks at us, it's so cute!

Bath time! He actually loves his bath!

We just think he is the cutest baby in the whole wide world! We are all doing great! I'm loving being a mom. Being a mom has made me a better person, I don't know how to explain it. I just feel better. But being a mom sure does give you a lot to worry about. I love that I can be a stay at home mom and watch him grow. I can't imagine leaving him everyday to go to work. My hats off to working moms because it can't be easy. But I feel like I need some play dates! =) I need some friends who have kids who we can get together during the day and hang out while our kids play, or in my child's case lay around looking cute and making spit bubbles! hee hee =) I'm starting to work out and so far it's going great and I'm feeling good. I'm starting out slow because I'm still not 100% recovered from having the c-section. I will be honest for a second and tell you that I gained 40 pounds with this baby, but surprisingly I only have 4 pounds to go till I get to my prebaby weight. I'm don't know how I lost it so fast, maybe breast feeding, I'm not really sure. I still look like I just had a baby cause I still have a little baby belly, but I think I'm off to a great start. See I wasn't at my goal weight before the baby, so I still have a long way to go. But I'm pretty motivated right now. I just need to keep up the momentum. Once you starting seeing the results from trying so hard to loose weight, then you kind of keep the momentum going, or at least I do. I'm pretty excited for Christmas, I LOVE the holidays! But we are dangerously behind in our Christmas shopping. I'm kind of useless right now with the baby because I'm not real comfortable going out with him yet. I did go out once, but it was a lot of work and I was worried the whole time.I guess it will get better the more I try... I don' t know. I feel like I'm going on and on =) I think it's cause I'm so tired. Jacob fell asleep at 8:30 after nursing and I thought that was too early to go to bed, but now I'm thinking that was a mistake because he's not going to go to sleep till 2 am, now that he's gotten a good nap in. I did try to keep him awake but I just felt bad because I could see in his eyes that he was so tired. Oh well, I figure this out someday =)

1 MONTH!!!

Our sweet baby Jacob is already ONE MONTH!!! Where did the time go, honestly! I feel like we just brought him home! Does this mean he is not a new born anymore?
We are doing great! We LOVE being a family so much! Jacob is a very sweet baby. He just wants to cuddle all day long! He smiles more and more everyday, although it's still rare.`

Misleading

Okay, I don't know why it's bothering me, but it is. I think the picture that I posted last week of his 3 weeks picture makes Jacob look too old. I think it makes him look like a toddler. It's just that picture, he still looks quite small, cause he is still small. So let me post some other pictures from that photo shoot so that people don't get the wrong idea. =) I guess it's cause I don't want him to grow up too fast. I know it's silly, but oh well! =)

3 weeks

I can't believe how fast time is already going by. We love our little Jakie cakes so much! Josh was blowing on his face and he started smiling back at Josh! I still can't believe it! We caught it on video so you have to watch it. Isn't it a bit early to be socially smiling? He hasn't smiled for Mommy yet, but that's okay. I think this teddy bear picture makes his hair look really red, it's not that red but it is strawberry blonde. He also isn't as stable as he looks in this picture. We had to take the picture quick before he fell over =)

Life one handed...

It's been fun figuring out how to do everyday things one handed with a baby in toe! =) Time really does fly by! Today Jacob is one week old! I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm so grateful that I am given the opportunity to be his mom, but I'm so saddened by the silly fact that my baby is going to grow up and not be my baby anymore. I want him to stay little forever! I'm LOVING everything about being a mother! I LOVE this little man so much, I never knew I could feel so much inside. And Josh is such an amazing dad. I always knew that he would make a great dad, but to see him in action is just so indescribable! We just love our baby so much. We stare at him constantly and laugh at every little sound or sigh or coo or stretch, I love our little family! So Much! I didn't know I could be this happy!

Here's some more fun pictures for you to adore my beautiful son with me!!! =)

Baby Jacob

Baby Jacob
Born November 9th at 5:23 a.m.
Weight 8 lbs 12oz
Height 19 3/4th inches
And absolutely perfect and beautiful!

So, I figure that everyone wants to see pictures instead of read so I will post some and tell you all about my labor later. Quite the story! But so worth it! I love this little boy more then I ever knew you could! And I LOVE being a mom!!!

Here's me Saturday morning about to leave for the hospital after my water broke

He is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen!

Grandma and baby

He actually doesn't mind his car seat! And doesn't cry in the car, I think he likes the motion.

I caught him smiling in his sleep. I can't wait till he really starts smiling. When does that start?

This little man completely and totally has every inch of our hearts! We love being parents! He is so perfect!

I never knew how much you could really love someone. He is amazing. We are so incredibly blest!
